Shiva's Abode by the River Krishna

Updated: Oct 3, 2020

Quite often we come across destinations that are not very popular and you will not also come across much information on the Internet, and today I will be sharing you a brief information about this place that I came across during my Sunday morning ride.

It was a regular Sunday morning ride and I had decided to ride all the way down to the Jurala Reservoir located at Mahabubnagar District - around 180 kms from Hyderabad and a perfect weekend destination specially during the monsoons.

📍 Wanaparthy| Telangana | India

Distance (from Hyderabad): 167 kms

However as usual, plans were about to get changed when I made my first stop for water and quick capture of the beautiful sunrise at Kothur - around 45 kms from my home. As I waited to watch the beautiful sunrise, I came across a locale who also stopped by and struck a conversation with me and in the course of the conversation he suggested me to also try and visit a place called Pamapuram where there is a beautiful temple of Lord Shiva in the middle of the Krishna River - some 63 odd kms from my actual destination.

As I continued my journey and reached Kothakota, I decided to drop my plans towards Jurala Reservoir and move on to this not so commercialized tourist destination - Pamapuram. I made a quick stopover, updated the destination in Google Maps and moved on to this new destination through beautiful village roads with lush green farms on either side.

As per the destination updated in Google Maps, I had reached the destination and to my surprise I could not see what I was described during my halt in the morning and left me quite disappointed, but then on inquiry from a locale, I realized that the exact location was further 1 - 3 kms ahead and it was my bad that I had entered the incorrect destination; instead of searching for Rameshwaram Temple, Pamapuram, I had searched for Pamapuram Temple.I decided to move on and was left wonder-struck at the sight that greeted me - around a 100 meters away across the paddy field and in the middle of the Krishna River was the beautiful statue of Lord Shiva.

Blue waters, blue skies and lush green paddy fields combined with the sound of the flowing water and the cool breeze - what else could one ask for on a Sunday after having traveled close to 172 kms from Hyderabad.

The maintenance of the temple compound was very poor with wild bushes and creepers all around thus spoiling the beauty of the place - even the statue of Nandi just as you enter the premises is in a depleted condition. In case you happen to be visiting Jurala Reservoir, do add this in your travel list as well to enjoy the pristine beauty of non-commercialized tourist destinations.

As usual before I end this blog, I would request everyone not to litter and leave every place better for our future generations to be also able to enjoy the beauty that these places have to offer.

Travel Tips: Carry sufficient water - and ensure to carry a garbage bag to ensure that you do not leave the waste and litter behind.
