One of the Most Unique Tanks of Telangana - Singasamudram Cheruvu

Updated: Nov 13, 2020

Hello Readers - hope everyone had a lovely weekend and looking forward to the coming weekend and the long Dussehra Vacations! Well today, let me take you through one of the unique tanks that I happened to visit last Sunday - Singasamudram Cheruvu.

Located at Rajanna Sircilla District - this place seems to have come alive with the recent rains and visitors are flocking this place in large numbers to experience the beauty and uniqueness of this place. This lake has 5 low head dams and gets its name from the feudal lord of the Kakatiyas - Singha Maharaja who dug this lake. This place is around 23 kms from Sircilla and 1 km from Lingapur Village in Kamareddy District.

Unlike most of my Sunday rides, this ride was quite different - it was planned well in advance and for a change I had the company of my biker brother - Nidheesh who also has a Himalayan to accompany him.

We started the ride around 5:30 AM and decided to take the National Highway 44 - as per Google Maps it should take us close to 3 hours to reach the location - 136 kms from Hyderabad. There was a forecast for rains and as we rode through the highway - we could feel the chill in the air - the weather seemed very pleasant and we expected that we would be back before the rains start lashing out. We rode for almost 52 kms before we decided to take a Chai break at Chai Kahani only to realize that we were a little too early.

Nevertheless, we decided to halt for a while for a quick sip of water and moved on. It was almost 6:30 AM by the time we moved and the skies looked quite overcast - I was anyways prepared since I always carry my rain gear with me, but I was a little worried for Nidheesh who had not brought along his rain gear. We took a few more stops for photos before reaching the South Campus of the Telangana University.

We were almost on track to our destination and would have reached much ahead of our schedule, but destiny had other plans for us - as we entered the road through the South Campus of the Telangana University, we encountered some mesmerizing roads that took us through some lush green farms and through beautiful forests forcing us to either stop frequently to capture those beautiful moments or slow down our ride.

For a moment on what looked like a overcast sky, the clouds suddenly seemed to clear up and we had decided to explore a few more places on our return journey. We finally reached the destination and as per Google Maps, we had to walk a few kilometers to reach the tank - it was surprising because we could see that even though the roads were temporary, we could still ride our bikes - only confusion and with no one around we were not sure which direction to take; hence we decided to explore both the directions.

As we moved towards one direction with our Himalayans we realized that the sky had again become overcast, but then the sights were so mesmerizing that we were left with no other option other than to explore - the further we went the more mesmerizing sights we came across until we came across a point where we realized that it was not possible to take our motorcycles further.

As we reached the end point, a light drizzle had started, however we still decided to explore the other end of the place. As we moved on, we could see a bunch of more motorcycles and as we reached the location we realized that this was the actual location as we could see the tank that had multiple steps to go down further. We parked our motorcycles and decided to explore the tank which by that time was a little crowded as we reached this site around 9:40 AM.

The best part about this tank was that the water was quite clean and there was no algae that can be seen in most of the other tanks thus making it easy to walk around and go up and down. The sad part was that the visitors that may have visited this place earlier have started littering this place thus spoiling the otherwise beautiful and scenic place.

The light drizzle that had started just before we reached this place was no turning into a downpour and we finally decided to ride back. We had to cut short our plans of exploring certain places on our way back due to the rains, We made a quick stop over at Chai Kahani again to dry ourselves a little and have a quick cup of tea and some snacks before finally heading back home.

As usual before I end this blog, I would request everyone not to litter and leave every place better for our future generations to be also able to enjoy the beauty that these places have to offer.

Travel Tips: Carry sufficient water - and ensure to carry a garbage bag to ensure that you do not leave the waste and litter behind. Also try to carry food or have it just before you reach this place as there are no eateries nearby.
